Suffolk is rich in Civil War history, and one of its most important sites is Riddick's Folly. This home was used as the headquarters of Maj. General John J. Peck, commander of the Union forces occupying Suffolk in 1862 and 1863. One room on the third floor still has graffiti left by occupying Union soldiers.
