History & Heritage Weekend

Suffolk is rich in Civil War history, and one of its most important sites is  Riddick's Folly.  This home was used as headquarters of Maj. General John J. Peck, commander of the Union forces occupying Suffolk in 1862 and 1863.  One room on the third floor still has graffiti left by occupying Union soldiers.  Riddick's Folly will host History and Heritage Weekend in April. At this time there are activities on the grounds and in the house that portray the Civil War era.  In addition, Riddick's Folly sponsors bus tours of local Civil War sites that are not normally open to the public.

The next History & Heritage Weekend is scheduled for April 12th and 13th, 2008.

These are Union re-enactors of the 7th New York Cavalry at the 2007 History and Heritage Weekend.

A Union re-enactor portrays General John J. Peck and signs passes for guests to travel freely through Union "occupied" Suffolk.

Kermit Hobbs's tours of local Civil War sites have been a popular part of Suffolk's History and Heritage Weekend, but we are sorry to say are not available this year.  Although we are offering other events of US History. Such as: Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and World Wars I & II.
